Potty Training Techniques For Puppies

A lot of people love a new puppy, with their cuteness and soft fur, but most people do not look forward to one of the main things associated with a new pet, which is potty training. For many pet owners, and pets, this process can prove to be frustrating.

While some techniques for training your puppy may work well for you, they may not work very well for other people.

For example: Some old-school ways of training involve crude ways to try and let the dog know that it has done something bad, but how would a dog know that?

A spanking with a newspaper, or rubbing the dogs nose in their mess may work for some, but for many people it is an inhumane way to train, and does not work for most.

The simple truth is this. Your dog has no idea that he is doing something wrong, because a dog does not live his life thinking that way. It seems impossible to think that a pet would walk into a new house and start using the bathroom on the carpet to be “bad”, don’t you agree?

Dogs just are not born with the instinct to go to the human bathroom and figure out how to use it, and they certainly are not born to play jokes on humans.

I think you would agree that nobody looks forward to potty training their pets, but just about everyone would agree that this is something that has to be done with any new pet.

Some simple things that anybody can do to ensure a properly trained pet is to learn to work with it, learn its habits, and try to teach it some new ones.

Some very simple tips to follow when potty training a new puppy are:

* Understand that dogs do not know right from wrong

* Feeding and walking schedule – Introducing your dog to a standardized schedule will really help him or her to develop regular bathroom habits.

* Puppy clicker training – A very popular way of using a clicking device when the animal does something favorable during training.

A really good way to make sure that you and your pet live a long happy life together, is to fix any behavioral issues that you may notice, as you notice them. Having a puppy dog that is well-trained and happy is a much better alternative than having one that doesn’t not seem to know what to do correctly.
